This afternoon drive through the city visiting the city center, the State Mosque and the National Museum displaying tribal artifacts and ancient porcelain. Day 02 Depart by boat to Turtle Island. Explore the island on your own. Visit the turtle hatchery. After dinner we will be taken by the Park Ranger to witness Green turtles lay eggs on the beach, transplanting of the eggs and the release of the newly hatched baby turtles to sea, assisted by volunteers. This island is a conservation area since 1977. Turtles nest here every night throughout the year. Note Accommodation is very basic with limited facilities. Day 03 Return to Sandakan, proceed by boat and 4 wheel drive to Sukau, Kinabatangan River and Gomotong Caves. In the afternoon, take a boat trip to see the proboscis monkey, birds and other wildlife along the Kinabatangan River. Day 04 Return to Sandakan. Proceed by car to Sepilok Orang Utan Center. The day is reserved for an extensive visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. Indeed this is the place to see the Red Ape of Borneo in the wild. The Rehabilitation Center itself is the product of a series of chance historical events and the reserve itself, a microcosm of the Borneo forest. Walk a jungle trail. Transfer to Sandakan airport for your departure flight.
